Four Easy Ways to Give Your Small Business an Instant Boost

Arrows point up

Small business owners know that to stay competitive they always need to be on the lookout for ways to grow and expand.

However, many business owners only focus on big-picture goals and neglect the day-to-day steps that help contribute to success. These steps are often simple and help build momentum so small businesses can catapult into something bigger.

You need to spread the word about your products, announce the launch of a new service, or simply get the ball rolling on sales. Modern technologies are here to help.

Read this article to learn four of the quickest and easiest ways to give your small business an instant boost.

Promote Your Small Business with These Four Easy Steps

Running a successful small business is no trivial feat. Use these four simple steps and your marketing will be much easier to manage.

Set Up Your Google Business Profile

Setting up a Google Business Profile is one of the best ways to get found on the web. Think of it as a grand announcement to the internet that you are open and ready for business. Today, most customers find your business using Google to match their search queries to keywords and therefore a Google Business Profile is a must.

The entire process is rather simple. Google will simply ask you for your business’s name, address, what services or products you sell, and a few other questions to help them connect you with relevant customers.

Let’s say you run a store that sells vintage women’s clothes. If you have a Google Business Profile, when a potential customer searches “vintage women’s clothes near me,” your store will appear in the results.

Optimize Your Website

Now that we have discussed Google Business Profile, let’s take it a step further. First, let’s make sure you have a website (if you live in the 21st century, then you already should).

Search engines, Google, for example, use a process called search engine optimization (SEO for short) to help searchers find relevant results. If you want your website to be found, you have to optimize it to make it easy for Google to connect searchers to your site.

How does this work? There are two main ways we will discuss.

The first is that you must make sure that your site is up to date and runs efficiently. Google penalizes you for slow site times, so if your webpages take more than a fraction of a second to load, Google will send the searcher elsewhere.

The second way is through keywords. Keywords are essentially industry-specific terms that make it crystal clear to Google what your business sells.

Let’s return to the women’s vintage store example. Say your number one seller is 1950s women’s dresses. Then one of your main keywords would be, you guessed it, “1950s women’s dresses.” This term becomes a keyword on your website when you use it frequently (and appropriately, never spam keywords) and dedicate a section of your site to that specific product.

Support and Engage Your Community

These days everyone wants to shop local. This helps keep money in town and boosts the local economy. But how do you get your name out there? It’s simple: demonstrate that you care about improving your community.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by sponsoring local schools and charity events.

This can be as simple as setting up a charity 5k fun run (sponsored by your business of course), sponsoring student competitions, or writing a check to help fight a local cause you are passionate about.

You can spend a lot of money or a little. However you go about it, make sure you are giving back to your community in a meaningful way while advertising your business. Remember, people can see through an empty gesture so make sure you are making a real impact.

Use Social Media

So, you’ve never had a Facebook account. You don’t know Twitter or Instagram from Pinterest. One of them has a bird mascot, right?

That's okay, you don't need to be tech-savvy to make a digital impact. There are many different online tutorials explaining the basics, and there are plenty of resources out there that can help give you a boost.

Even just having a Facebook page can give you a boost and add a sense of legitimacy to your business. If you really want to make an impact, you will post at least once a week on at least one social media account. Remember to use keywords and if nothing else, make your posts interesting.

Self-Promotion Takes Your Small Business Further

There is no better way to ensure success than consistent, thoughtful self-promotion. You don’t have to go far out of your way or spend thousands of dollars to do it either. Follow the four steps above and you will launch your small business into a success.
